OUR STORY
Little Elm Area Food Bank has been serving families in the Little Elm Area for 40 years. Check out the information on this page to learn more about our history, see pictures of our work, and learn more about our partner organizations and business.
HISTORY
The Little Elm Area Food Bank (LEAFB) began in 1984 when founder Pearl Gentsch requested cans of food for people experiencing poverty instead of gifts for Christmas.
Initially stored in the old First Baptist Church, the food bank eventually moved to the original Little Elm Community Center in 2002 and then to its current location at 501 Bill Street in 2005, remodeled by the Town of Little Elm. LEAFB serves areas including Hackberry, Little Elm, Lakewood Village, and others within the Little Elm Independent School District.
MISSION
Mission Statement: The Little Elm Area Food Bank is dedicated to addressing food insecurity in the Little Elm and surrounding areas. We provide essential food assistance, resources, and volunteer opportunities to support individuals and families in need.
Our mission is to provide a two-week food supply to residents experiencing a family emergency and educate them about additional sources of long-term assistance at the county and state levels. Our programs specifically target both hunger and food insecurity in our community.
SEE WHAT WE DO
Our work is made possible by the dedication of our volunteers and community support.
PARTNERS
The Little Elm Area Food Bank is supported by generous financial contributions from individuals, local civic groups, and area businesses.
These donations are essential to our ability to provide food assistance to families in need. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all donations made to the food bank are tax-deductible, and we sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from our community partners.
